Hello gardeners,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during the current situation.  Everyone must be looking forward to being able to get out to our little garden and enjoy the improving weather and longer days of sunlight.  Like everyone else, the committee is still trying to understand how best to operate under the restrictions on gatherings. 

In the short term, we’ve slightly modified the registration forms.

The Waiver and the Registration form

There are two ways to complete the Registration and Waiver Forms.

1. Print the attached forms.  Complete them, scan and return by e-mail
2. Visit the site and download the Waiver and Registration forms.  Fill them out by using a PDF tool such as Acrobat.  Instructions from Adobe can be found here:

If you can fill in the forms electronically, save and send them in, that would be easiest for us.  Of course,

 If you cannot do either, please do at least send us an email ( if you have not already ) to let us know you are returning, and we’ll figure out the best way to accommodate the forms at a later time.  We will at least need some acceptance of the waiver, your current contact details and emergency information for our records, before we start growing. 

As for payments, if your bank supports it, you can send an e-transfer to our garden email stbarnabasgarden@gmail.com

address.  It will be received by the treasurer, Simon, in trust, and once all payments are received, he will write a cheque to the Garden, care of the Church.  The same email address will also work if you are a PayPal user.  If neither of those options work, again, please contact us to at least confirm you are returning to the Garden, and we will find a way to accommodate you in future.

At present, it does not look like a productive and safe workday can be held in the near future.  We will be considering the best ways to get the garden set up in time for the growing season, but some tasks may have to be deferred until later – especially things like spreading mulch.

Once we have a plan, we may ask for those of you who are able to, to volunteer.  Finally, there are two un-assigned beds at the moment.  If you are interested in moving to bed 4 or bed 10, we can accommodate that on a “first received” email basis.

We hope everyone has had a good winter, and is looking forward to the upcoming gardening season.  The Committee has set the calendar for the upcoming year, and reviewing our notes for the small changes that have been suggested at the wrap up meeting.  

From the calendar, our first meeting of the year will be March 21st 2020, at 1:00pm in the Church undercroft.  Please remember that attendance is mandatory, either by yourself or a delegate. This meeting allows us to collect the forms and payments for the year, confirm plot assignments, and discuss any updates to rules and policies for the year.  And of course, it’s a great chance to meet your fellow gardeners, who hopefully you’ll be seeing around the garden throughout the year.

• The registration form, which confirms your information, fees and acknowledgment of the rules
• The waiver form

Please review the rules, which besides the dates, have minor changes this year. Mainly this is to reinforce our commitment to the shared ‘community’ aspect of the Garden, so besides attending the group work days, ensuring we all contribute to the upkeep of shared areas between work days. The goal is twofold – to ensure we have enough people at each workday, and that less of those workdays is spent on basic upkeep tasks.

Please print the registration and waiver forms, and bring them to the meeting on the 21st .  Payment can be made by cash or cheque.  Cheques should be made payable to St Barnabas Anglican Church.  

Seedy Saturday is also scheduled for that day, from 10am to 3pm,  over at the Community Association. http://www.calgaryseedysaturday.ca/ .  It is a great place to get seeds for your garden!

After the registration day, the first big event for the year is the work day on April 18^th.  Should the weather not cooperate, the work day would be deferred to April 25th.  The other work days will be spread out similar to last year, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.   

There will likey be a few plots available.  Before we look for new gardeners, current gardeners who would like to switch to a new bed will have the opportunity to do so at the kick off meeting,  The garden layout, as well as schedule, forms and other information can be found on the Garden website – https://stbarnabasgarden.org/

It’s a bit of late start for the committee, and we congratulate Jennifer and Matt, as they welcome young Blake to the world.  The Committee has been drafting up a calendar for the upcoming year, and reviewing our notes for the small changes that have been suggested at the wrap up meeting.  For the calendar, our first organizing meeting of the year will be March 16^th, 2019 , at 1:00pm in the Church undercroft.  The first meeting is mostly to collect the forms and payments for the year, and a good chance to meet your fellow gardeners and discuss plans for the upcoming season.

Please review the rules, which other than the dates, are unchanged from last year.  If you did not do so at the 2018 wrap up, please print the registration and waiver forms, and bring them to the meeting on the 16^th.  Seedy Saturday is also scheduled for that day over at the Community Association.
